German cuisine - cooking recipes

The German cuisine varies greatly from region to region. The main dishes are usually big, heavy and high caloric due to the large use of pork and bacon, but very tasty.
Pork, beef, and poultry are the main varieties of meat consumed in Germany, with pork being the most popular (in average a German consumes about 40 kg. pork per year).
The most popular poultry is the chicken although duck and goose are also used. The game is also quite popular, especially the boar, but also rabbit and venison. Lamb and goat are seldom used.
Throughout Germany, meat is very often eaten in sausage form. There is said to be more than 1500 different types of sausage in Germany.
The most popular vegetables are potatoes, carrots, turnip, asparagus, spinach, cabbage, cauliflower and beans, with potatoes being the most popular. The vegetables are usually cooked as stew, but also as side dishes and garnishes.
